Woman Drives 200 Miles While Sleeping

A New Zealand woman drove overnight for nearly 200 miles and sent texts as she went—but was probably asleep the whole time. It all started when a concerned friend contacted police shortly after midnight Wednesday because the unnamed woman, who has a sleep disorder, took sleeping pills and drove away from her home, Stuff (NZ) reports. Police knew she was texting, and people who received the texts said she sounded half-asleep. Police tracked her location by her cellphone, but she had moved on by the time officers arrived. Police finally found her slumped over the wheel, asleep, in the driveway of her old home in the town of Mount Maunganui, after what the AFP describes as a five-hour drive. She awoke with “absolutely no recollection of the events overnight,” said a police sergeant. “We have sought an urgent order forbidding her to drive and to seek medical advice on her suitability to remain holding her drivers license.” Scarier still, this wasn’t a first: Ten months ago she took a drive while sleeping and ended up in another city.sleepy-driver

“Middle-earth” Money and Stamps

New Zealand known as “Home of Middle-earth” Commemorates The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey with Coins and Stamps

Since the release of The Lord of The Rings in 2001, New Zealand has been known as “Home of Middle-earth,” and is excited for another leading role in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey premiering in the capital city of Wellington on November 28th.

J.R.R. Tolkien didn’t mention what currency if any was used in Middle Earth but if he did The New Zealand Post is certain Gandalf the Grey and Bilbo Baggins would’ve been featured on it. These characters are very important to New Zealand as the exposure the country gains by the books and movies naturally spikes tourist interest. Which is why they’ve created actual legal tender as well as stamps to commemorate the movie.

These collector items are available to pre-order now and in addition to Bilbo and Gandalf other characters such as wizard Radagast the Brown, dwarf king Thorin Oakenshield, Lord of Rivendell Elrond and Gollum will be featured on the coins. Coins range in denomination from a NZ$1 to a NZ$10 and retail from NZ$29.90 to NZ$3,695 for a premiere gold coin set.

So,  My Precious, My Precious clear off a shelf and make room for your new Hobbit collection with plenty of time to admire before the movie is in theaters, December 14th.
