Who has to help fund the UK P2P copyright crackdown? The British ISPs thats who.

Apparently those of you across the pond are having some interesting developments about who has to cover the tab for all of the letters that are going out to suspected P2P users. While the copyright holders are covering about 75% of the bills the ISPs have to cover 25%. Obviously the ISPs are less then happy about it as are consumers. One of the more problematic issues with the Digital Economy Act is that it turns standard justice on its ear as one has to prove their innocence instead of needing to be proven guilty. In addition to the hassle of this its almost certain that the ISPs will simply pass along the added cost straight to their consumers. All in all a bad day for consumers in the UK.

Net Neutrality is Dead

The internet has been buzzing for the past week over rumors that beloved search giant Google has finally become the evil empire it was always destined to be. Like Anakin Skywalker right after skinny dipping in a lava bath, Google is about to turn its back on the people who made it powerful in the first place by striking an agreement with Verizon that, from the way it looks, will create a “2-tier” internet where prioritized content can be accessed at higher speeds, as long as you can afford it. This could be devastating to small businesses or non-profits who rely on the affordability and easy distribution that the internet offers.

The FCC has given up. All I can say is “Et tu, Google?”
