New thriller series Hunted premieres tonight on Cinemax at 10 pm/9 Central.

Former award-winning writer/producer for The X-Files, Frank Spotnitz is at it again with a smart new action series called Hunted. The series focuses on Sam Hunter, a private security operative for the elite private intelligence and security firm Byzantium. Sam is played by Melissa George (Alias, In Treatment) and portrays whatever her assignment calls for; from sexy to sullen, and clever to crazy her character is a force to be reckoned with.  She proves that during the first opening minutes of the show by kicking, punching, snapping necks and shooting a bunch of attackers.

If you’re a fan of The X-Files and the mystery and suspense of the show then you’re sure to be a fan of Hunted. Although unlike The X-Files, Hunted is more complex and needs to be watched in order as more of the plot is revealed throughout the episodes.

Spotnitz tells Wired, “In a traditional spy story, we assume our spies are the good guys,” said Spotnitz, who huddled for six months with three other writers and a story editor to make sure all the pieces fit together. “Whether or not everything the U.S. or British government does is good, I think we take it for granted that they’re trying to do the right thing. But when you enter the private world, you can make no such assumptions. Private interests are trying to accumulate wealth and power, and whether that serves the public interest or a greater good is purely incidental. I thought this was an extremely interesting subject worth exploring.”
