As soon as Nov. 9th, people will be able to apply for new top-level domains  such as “.nyc,” “.london,” or “.apple.” Registration will cost $185,000 and they will accept about a thousand new TLDs. Current popular TLDs are .com, .net, .gov, and .edu. There are no rules for who can register, so it will be interesting to see if they put some new guidelines in place to protect brands or, for example, whether you can register a .nyc domain if you’re not part of the NYC government.
