For at least one month this past summer, Google Maps “lost” Sunrise, FL. Seems like an error in their algorithm redirected users to Sarasota, FL instead of Sunrise, resulting in confused direction-seekers and local business owners’ ecommerce taking a huge hit. This isn’t the first time this has happened. Apparently Google has lost Sunrise twice before and has lost five other cities recently: La Jolla, California; Rogers, Minnesota; Wickliffe, Ohio; Woodstock, Virginia, and Imperial Beach, California.

Had to post something about this since Sunrise is about 20 minutes from where I grew up. Sunrise is also where I had my first web job writing copy for a company that made real estate websites.
