Your Internet Privacy Is Being Invaded

“We’re reaching the end sum of a long trend: in the US, privacy is now a myth, unless you’re working with the government,” Motherboard writer Derek Mead states in a recent article regarding the FBI and online privacy.

Leaked documents from the IRS, the Department of Justice and the FBI show that they don’t believe warrants are necessary for monitoring the public’s online communication. It’s also been reported that the Obama administration plans to back the FBI’s plan of forcing internet providers, social media platforms, email hosts and others to install backdoors to allow the FBI easier access.

Authorities are successfully pushing to make American’s online communication far easier to monitor and with fewer legal barriers than traditional modes of communication. This is due to their proclamation that the internet is the realm of criminals.

The FBI argues that the law states citizens have no expectation of privacy on transmitted information, and that old emails only require a subpoena—an order signed by a district attorney, not an independent judge like a warrant does—to force providers to hand over data.

However by using a VPN such as IPVanish, all or your online communications become encrypted making them only readable to the source they were intended for. You choose your IP location and can browse the internet securely with a high-speed connection. For as low as $6.49/month you can choose from 3500+IPs on 100+ servers in 43 countries, guaranteeing that you always have high-speed access no matter where you are located, and you can use it on multiple devices! Check out IPVanish today to prevent your online privacy from being invaded. Read more at Why VPN?

Archie Meets the Punisher - If you thought that the recently announced zombie apocalypse-themed Afterlife with Archie was the weirdest thing to hit Riverdale, then you must not know about 1994′s Archie Meets the Punisher, a comic book which actually exists and introduced all-American teenager Archie Andrews to the bloodthirsty avatar of vengeance himself, Frank Castle. Sent to Riverdale to hunt down a mysterious drug dealer named “Red,” the Punisher naturally mistakes Archie as the drug-peddler he was sent to take down…

DC vs. Marvel Comics - Ah, the Amalgam Universe, how could we ever forget you and your eyebrow-raising mash-up metahumans like Dark Claw, Doctor Strangefate and Nightcreeper? The four issue 1996 mini-series saw DC and Marvel joining forces to pit their most popular characters head-to-head in a series of epic battles, some of which relied on fans to vote on the outcome…

Batman vs. Predator - Written by Dave Gibbons, penciled by Andy Kubert, inked by Adam Kubert and published by DC and Dark Horse Comics, 1991′s Batman vs. Predator finds the Dark Knight hot on the trail of a mysterious assassin who’s leaving an increasingly grisly series of bodies in his wake.

Marvel and DC Present the Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans - Although 1982 marked the release of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, true comic book fans remember it as the year that DC and Marvel teamed up to birth Marvel and DC Present the Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans…

When Wired first moved into San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood, the old warehouses and lofts were still noisy with the sound of Asian women making garments on clackity sewing machines. Just a few years later, the buildings were filled instead with the humming of Internet startups. In 1998, as the magazine’s executive editor, I hatched a plan for a photo essay, one that would take portraits of the people who worked in these tech startups within a block or two of our offices. It was an exhilarating period, overflowing with unexpected possibilities. What did we hope this technology would do? What were our dreams? Our building alone housed several other startups around that time, including Organic, Vivid Studios, eGroups, and Suck.com. I wanted to capture that moment as we realized these possibilities. But the documentary project never came together, and it’s a miss I’ve always regretted…

In the upcoming film Iron Man 3, Robert Downey Jr. reprises the role of Tony Stark, brilliant technologist turned armored superhero, to battle the terrorist cult leader known as the Mandarin. But this isn’t just the latest in a wave of superhero adaptations from Marvel Studios. Events have been building to this moment ever since Tony was forced to create a sophisticated suit of armor out of scraps in a cave. Understandably, it can be a little confusing at times trying to keep track of who’s who and how characters relate to one another in this fictional universe that spans not just three movies, but a whole Marvel Cinematic universe connecting various film franchises. But have no fear. Here’s a handy infographic to help you brush up and explore the relationships between Iron Man’s many super-heroic allies and fearsome foes. – Wired

Newshosting, global Usenet newsgroup provider, announced today the release of its newest browser, v1.4.0. The most significant feature of this upgrade is the introduction of an automatic search function designed to deliver a faster and more efficient Usenet experience than ever before to Newshosting subscribers.

The new automatic search feature allows searches to be performed by the Newshosting software on an hourly basis and quietly in the background. This feature displays all new results for automatic searches in the Newshosting software interface and can also be set to automatically download these results. Options for the automatic downloads allow the user to limit the amount of traffic generated by automatic downloads per day, week or month. Search results of automatic searches can also be restricted to specific file sizes and media categories as well as the ability to set start and end dates for the active searches.

For more information on the Newshosting browser, visit Newshosting’s QuickStart Guide.

Newshosting is the world’s premier provider of Usenet newsgroup access. As the industry-leader in service reliability, speed and retention, Newshosting is committed to providing world-class Usenet access to over 100,000 discussion groups from its servers across the world.

When Kickstarter launched in April 2009 it created a way for the little guys to fund their dream projects. Someone who had a big idea but a little bank account could still find funding through the benevolence of the crowd. Lately, though, that seems to be changing. We’re seeing more people with big ideas and big bank accounts find funding.

People like Zach Braff, perhaps best known as Dr. John ‘J.D.’ Dorian on the TV show Scrubs. Last week he launched a Kickstarter to fund his film Wish I Was Here. The film, a follow-up to his indie love story Garden State, tells the story of a 35-year-old actor and father trying to find himself. According to Braff’s pitch, the film needs fan-funding because he believes Kickstarter might be the way to make a “smaller, personal [flim] that didn’t involve signing away all your artistic control.”

The project — born of a fairly famous actor/director with many, many fans and Twitter followers — raised nearly $2.2 million from more than 30,000 backers in just four days. It was an unqualified win, for Braff and Kickstarter. Yet it raised an uncomfortable question: Why does a famous TV star with a directorial hit under his belt need my money, a question Valleywag posed with the headline, “Rich Person Zach Braff Wants the Internet to Pay for His Next Movie.”

Braff has an answer for you…

That Darth Vader sure was an absentee father, eh? Didn’t even know he had kids, much less twins, much less twins who were actively fighting against him. Author and illustrator Jeffrey Brown chooses to think of it a different way, though, and has come up with a take on Vader where he was a pretty good dad. Last year’s Darth Vader and Son showed us how the asthmatic Sith would spend time with Luke, and this year we get to see him dealing with a rebellious, pastry-haired daughter in Vader’s Little Princess. He has tea parties with her, teaches her how to fly a TIE Fighter and even gets upset when she starts spending time with a scruffy-looking nerd-herder.

This is a must-have book for any Star Wars fan and we’re pleased to be giving away one to a lucky winner. You only have until midnight on Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 to enter so you’d better act quickly. Missing out on this opportunity cannot be undone, no matter how strong with the force you are. Enter now, you will!
